(WCTV) - As Alzheimer's Awareness Month comes to an end, Florida State University researchers are continuing efforts to better understand the disease and shape the future of prevention and treatment. Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's, and one in three seniors dies from Alzheimer's or another form of dementia, according to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation. Hundreds gathered downtown for the Cairo Vet Fest with nearly 30 vendors and a street filled with patriotic spirit. "Without our veterans, we wouldn"t have our businesses, we wouldn"t have our churches, we wouldn"t have anything that we have," Pat Christopher, event organizer, said. Dogtag Support System, a local nonprofit offering resources to local vets, put this event together to recognize and celebrate them.
